10 years ago (1999): Fargo-Moorhead’s pro basketball team may be the Beez, but they’re not the killer Beez.

And that lack of a killer instinct cost Fargo-Moorhead an IBA game at the Civic Center.

With the game tied 92 all, the Beez got the last shot in regulation and let the Dakota Wizards slip away. Given a reprieve, the Wizards jumped to a 100-94 lead in the overtime en route to a 107-103 victory.

Leading the way for the Wizards in the extra period, just as he had all evening, was 6-foot-4 guard Brian Green. He scored eight points in overtime to complete a 39-point effort. Green went 12-for-23 from the floor, and 12-for-17 from the foul line.

20  years ago (1989): Quarterback Mike Aanderud and three other players from state champion Beulah lead the 1989 Class B 11-man all-state football team.

Aanderud, a 5-foot-10, 155-pound senior, was named to the offensive unit along with teammate Lloyd Anderson, a 6-3, 202 pound offensive lineman. Beulah’s Wade Boeshans, a linebacker, and Spencer Hafner, a defensive lineman, were named to the defensive team.

Two players from Linton and two from Watford City made the team. Selected from the Lions, who made it to the semifinals, were offensive lineman Bruce Bosch and defensive lineman Jim Ramey. The Wolves had running back Shane Homiston and offensive lineman R.J. Moen.

Other area players to make the team included quarterback Todd Sheldon of New England-Regent-St. Mary’s, defensive lineman Allan Hoffner of Harvey, defensive lineman James Bares of Beach, linebacker Todd Sauer of Washburn, and defensive back Judd Nielsen of Bowman.

50  years ago (1959): SIDNEY, Mont. — The Bismarck High Demons took too long to get started against Sidney and found themselves on the short end of an 81-57 score.

Sidney’s star center, Bob Jensen, was the main drawback as far as the Demons were concerned. The 6-5 all-state flash scored 24 points on nine field goals and six free throws, and controlled both backboards.

Gordon Postovit led the Demons with 15 points.
