MINOT - The Linton-HMB Lions appeared to be set to take home third-place hardware at the Class B state volleyball tournament.

The Stanley Blue Jays derailed their quest on finishing the year with a win on Saturday afternoon at the Minot State Dome. After dropping the first two games 25-17, 25-19, the Blue Jays rallied to win the final three sets 27-25, 25-19, 15-7.

"We definitely had a chance to put them away," Linton-HMB coach Jaime Richter said. "I felt we backed off and they read some of our tips. My players forgot to start hitting the ball, and they didn't switch it up enough. I felt we stopped hitting the ball, and they ended up getting momentum."

Lacey Ryckman paced Linton-HMB with 15 kills and Kayln Schneider added nine. Ryckman also recorded three blocks. Katelyn Kalberer collected 18 assists and Whitney Gerving added 14.

Jasmin Pappa led Stanley with 16 kills. Rachel Mehus added 14 and Shaunessy Dauwalder 12. Reeann Mehus guided Stanley with 30 assists.

Richter credited Stanley's blocking attack as the difference in the match. The Blue Jays combined for nine blocks and generated more touches in the final three sets. Dauwalder led Stanley with four blocks. Bailey Hornberger and Brooke Meyer added two each.

"They blocked a few of our balls and got into our girls' heads," Richter said. "Their middle blocker (Meyer) blocked a few balls, and they were straight down. They started blocking a few balls and our girls started tipping a little bit."

"It was a great season for us," Flasher coach Jerlyn Gabrielson said. "I'm so proud of the girls the way they played through the district and regional tournaments. It was good for our program. We're a small school, and a third of our student body plays volleyball."
