Bismarck Demons

2008: Sixth place at West Region tournament, 369; ninth place at state tournament, 752.

Coach: Brandon Bondley, first year.

Top returnees: Kristen Goulet, sr. Lindsay Reede, fr.

Notes: Kristen Goulet was Bismarck's top player last year, tying for 13th at state, but Bondley said she is undecided whether she will play this season. … Bismarck will open the season with just four players on the roster, not counting Goulet. … The Demons have qualified for the last seven state tournaments.

Century Patriots

2008: Second at West Region, 332; fifth at state, 704.

Coach: Lynn Gress, ninth year.

Top returnees: Adrianna Harris, jr. McKenzie McMillan, jr. Krissy Aasen, jr. Alexa Dvorak, jr. Megan Larson, jr. Alyssa Kroshus, sr. Kara Wetzel, sr.

Notes: McKenzie McMillan was an all-region performer and Century's top finisher at state, taking 17th. ¦ Alexa Dvorak, Adrianna Harris and Krissy Aasen were all in the top 25. … Century has never failed to qualify for the state tournament.

Dickinson Midgets

2008: Third at West Region, 348; fourth at state, 690.

Coach: Olivia Wellenstein, 16th year.

Top returnees: Jenna Wellenstein, jr. Lexi Erickson, sr. Steph Wallace, sr. Morgan Kathrein, jr.

Notes: Dickinson's No. 1 player is Jenna Wellenstein, who was 12th at state last year and all-region performer. … The Midgets had their streak of four straight West Region titles snapped. … Dickinson has qualified for state 12 years in a row.

Jamestown Blue Jays

2008: Fourth at West Region, 362; sixth at state, 719.

Coach: Dean Kraft.

Top returnees: Laura Kraft, jr.

Notes: Laura Kraft was the medalist at last year's state and West Region tournaments as a sophomore. She also had the state's best scoring average (76.1).

Mandan Braves

2008: Eighth at West Region, 427; did not qualify for state.

Coach: Dean Johs, first year.

Top returnees: Anna Helmers, jr. Breanna Schauer, sr. Kayla Helbling, 8th.

Notes: Mandan last qualified for state in 2001, in large part due to low participation numbers. But the Braves will have at least six golfers out this year.

Minot Majettes

2008: First at West Region, 318; state champions, 633.

Coach: Eric Hendrickson, fourth year.

Top returnees: Mickayla Nagel, sr. Mackenzie Nagel, sr. Brooklyn Bender, jr. Danielle Foster, so. Emma Kusick, jr.

Notes: Minot returns the core of last year's state championship team, including four players who were in the top 15 at last year's state tourney. … Mickayla Nagel and Emma Kusick finished 3-4 at state last year. Mackenzie Nagel tied for eighth. Danielle Foster was tied for 13th. … The Majettes did lose all-stater Shantel Montgomery to graduation. … Mackenzie Nagel was an all-stater, while Mickayla Nagel, Kusick and Bender were all-region. … It was Minot's first title since 1995. … The Majettes were dominant, averaging 25 strokes fewer per tournament than their nearest competition.

Turtle Mountain Bravettes

2008: Seventh at West Region, 419; did not qualify for state.

Top returnees: Not available.

Williston Coyotes

2008: Fifth at West Region, 366; 10th at state, 759.

Coach: Dennis Healy, second year.

Top returnees: Miranda Zavalney, sr. Kayla Barke, fr. Cari Zavalney, so. Anna Peterson, so.

Notes: Miranda Zavalney finished in a tie for 13th at state last year. She is one of four returnees from last season's state qualifier. … Kayla Barke had a strong offseason, winning a couple of Mon-Dak junior tournaments.
