So you want to talk blowouts? Well, this one definitely qualifies.

Try 17 runs on 12 hits and three errors - and that was just the third inning.

"I know I've never hit three times in an inning," Bismarck Governors right fielder DustinWenzel said in the wake of Wednesday's 22-2 Legion baseball dusting of the Mandan Chiefs. "I don't think I've every been part of a 17-run inning, either."

Wenzel put the finishing touches on the 17-run third, cracking a three-run triple to the center field wall at Memorial Ballpark to make the score 16-2.

The third inning was a merry-go-round for the visiting Governors. JustinConnell swatted two-run singles both of his trips to the plate in the marathon inning. Matt Loomis cracked two doubles, sending home four runners. Eight different batters contributed hits to the uprising.

Bismarck's rally was Mandan's nightmare before a large Independence Day crowd. The Chiefs contributed four walks and three errors to their own undoing. Pitcher Jared Quast watched 11 unearned runs scurry home.

"The person Ifeel sorry for is Quast," Mandan coach Len Stanley said. "You look at the scoreboard and say, 'His pitching must have been horrendous.' But he must have gotten seven or eight outs that inning."

Quast endured the whole mess - all 65 pitches worth.

Wednesday's mismatch followed a 14-0 Bismarck win onTuesday.

"I don't think we came out expecting to beat them even worse than yesterday, but we got to their starting pitcher early and hit the ball hard,"Wenzel said. "And (Zach) Wentz gave a good performance."

Wentz, Bismarck's starting pitcher, went five innings, striking out 11 and allowing seven hits and two runs before turning a 19-2 lead over to Matt Loomis.

Wenzel smacked the only round-tripper in Bismarck's 25-hit assault. He sent a 2-and-1 fastball far over the screen monster in left field to give the Governors a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Mandan replied with a run in the home first on Paul Moch's single and BrandonCoyle's RBIdouble. That made it 1-1 and proved to be the high point of the game for the Chiefs.

Wenzel led Bismarck's hit parade with a homer, triple, double and walk. He drove in five runs and scored three times before being lifted in the fifth inning.

Shortstop JustinConnell and Loomis, who started the game at first base, banged out four hits apiece. Connell had a double and four RBIs. and Loomis smacked two doubles and chased home five runs.

"Give Bismarck credit,"Stanley said. "They're on a roll right now. Our kids made some darned good pitches, and they hit everything we threw at them."

Bismarck coach Mike Skytland said such offensive fireworks make him wish he could save a few runs for a rainy day.

"You just try to have good at-bats every time, and sometimes they go your way and sometimes they don't," Skytland said. "… They made a couple of good defensive plays in the first couple of innings. In the third inning they made a couple of mistakes, and our hitters did a good job of taking advantage of that."

Bismarck ran its Western Division record to 5-1 with the victory and overall mark to 15-6.Mandan fell to 2-8 and 12-18 with the setback. The Governors get a five-day break before visiting Dickinson onTuesday.
