10 years ago (1999): The Bismarck Senior Babe Ruth baseball team swept a doubleheader against the Bismarck Royals, winning the first game 17-1 and the second game 4-3.

In the first game for SBR, Scott Kinnischitzke was 2-for-3 with a triple, while Landen Nelson finished 2-for-4 with a triple. T.J. Hermann went 3-for-4, while Lawrance Merck doubled. Shawn Riveland finished 2-for-3 with a double, while Brady Engel was 2-for-4 with a double. Paul Siefert went 3-for-3, while Nick Kadrmas was 2-for-2. Hermann picked up the win.

For the Royals, David Wisham doubled, while Mitch Bosch took the loss.

In the second game for SBR, Landen Nelson and Engle each doubled, while Hermann went 2-for-4 with a double and triple. Merck earned the win.

For the Royals, Chad Wenzel was 2-for-3 with a triple and three runs batted in, while Jonathan Rich was saddled with the loss.

20 years ago (1989): The Mandan Chiefs finally beat the Bismarck Governors in American Legion baseball, 18-17 in 10 innings.

Mandan scored four runs in the top of the inning before Bismarck could only manage three in the home half. The teams combined for 36 hits (18 each) and 10 errors (The Governors had seven).

Chad Schulte picked up the win, while J.T. Noehre was saddled with the loss.

For the Chiefs, Jason Meyhoff went 4-for-6 with five runs batted in, while Jason Arenz was 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs. Jimmer Henrickson finished 4-for-7 with four RBIs, while Jon Amundson finished 3-for-5.

For the Governors, Scott Greff was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs, while Jeff Schulz was 3-for-6 with a triple, four runs and two RBIs. Chad Spotts finished 4-for-5 with a double, three runs and four RBIs, while Greg Giedd tallied a triple and two runs. Mike White collected two hits and two RBIs.

50 years ago (1959): A 16-year-old Fargo youth won the right to go to the National Jaycee Junior Finals fo the second year in a row by winning this year's North Dakota State Jaycee Junior Golf Tournament.

Young Mark Mathiason shot a 3-over-par 73 in the final round at the Apple Creek Country Club course to bring his 36-hole score to 148 and bring him the championship.

Bismarck's Ron Anderson took seventh with a 154. Other Bismarck finishers were Jim De Forest in 16th (161), Bob Cram in 23rd place (175) and Tom Roberts right behind him (185).
