From 1D: Eight years ago today, for the first time in NFL history, a game started with back-to-back touchdown returns on kickoffs. Atlanta's Darrick Vaughn returned the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown, and St. Louis matched the Falcons immediately as Tony Horne takes the ball 3 yards deep in the end zone and runs down the sideline for a game-tying score. St. Louis won 45-29.

10 years ago (1998):BOWMAN- The Bowman Bulldogs scored the last 22 points against Hettinger to pick up a 22-20 win in Class B football action.

Justin Fischer scored on an 8-yard run and then hit Brad Braaten and Chris Schmidt with touchdown passes for Bowman. Braaten caught a 13-yard score and Schmidt added a 7-yarder. Fischer ran for 82 yards and threw for 69.

For the Black Devils, Josh Smith scored on a 66-yard run and Troy Davidson threw two touchdown passes. He hit Bryan Parker from 23 yards out and connected with Ryan Carter for a 20-yard touchdown. Josh Smith ran 25 times for 125 yards.

20 years ago (1988): GRANDFORKS - Century defeated Mandan 6-1 and West Fargo 4-2 to advante to the fifth-place game against Jamestown in the North Dakota state soccer tourney.

Scott Mugli scored two goals and Matt Gunther, Dave Wolf, Carri Berg and Kyle Johnson one each in Century's win over Mandan.

Gunther, Eric Redding, Dave Bitz and Jim Browning all put in goals against West Fargo.

Bismarck defeated Grand Forks Red River 2-1 and tied Fargo South 1-1, but was eliminated from further play by the point system.

Chris Wold and Jason Bolden scored for the Demosn against Red River, while B.J. Stockert had their only tally against Fargo South.

50 years ago (1958): MC CLUSKY - Anamoose struck through the air three times in beating McClusky 24-6.

Bob Tuchscherer pitched two touchdown passes in the second quarter, one to Dick Dolber for 45 yards and the other to Heinle for 15 yards.

In the third quarter, Fritz Browning recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown. In the fourth quarter, Dolber passed to Heinle for the game's final touchdown.
