Weston Dressler's breakout game in the Canadian Football League ended in despair.
The Bismarck graduate and former University of North Dakota star raised some eyebrows with an impressive performance for the Saskatchewan Roughriders on July 12 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Dressler, a 5-foot-7, 179-pound wide receiver, caught six passes for 122 yards and scored his first CFL touchdown.
On Dressler's final play, toward the end of the game, he felt his right hamstring pull after he hauled in a pass.
He didn't play last week in Saskatchewan's 41-33 victory over the Montreal Alouettes. Dressler said he will more than likely miss Sunday's game against the Toronto Argonauts. Dressler hopes to get back into the lineup Aug. 2 against the Calgary Stampeders.
"I've just been getting in and doing treatments,"Dressler said. "I've been icing and doing different hamstring exercises. I want to get as healthy as possible and get back as quick as possible."
Dressler said he's been riding a stationary bike and doing some jogging. He's hoping the injury doesn't set him back.
Dressler has 128 yards receiving, with his longest reception being 87 yards, and the one touchdown.
"For me, I want to try to get healthy and jump back in where I left off,"he said. "It's not fun when you have to stand on the sidelines and watch teammates practice and play in games."
Dressler said he didn't miss any games at UND. At Bismarck High, he missed one game because of a concussion.
"It's an 18-game season," Dressler said, "and injuries do happen. You have to keep your head straight and not let it get to you."
