Running backs Scott Samuelson and K.C. Knudtson combined for 50 carries for 256 yards and four TDs in Watford City's 28-22 win over No. 3 Hazen in Class AA football action Friday. Samuelson carried 26 times for 175 yards and three TDs as the No. 5 Wolves improved to 2-0.
Hazen's Alex Philion returned a kickoff 90 yards for a TD.
Daniel Carr carried nine times for 95 yards and three scores in No. 1 Dickinson Trinity's 54-0 win over New Town Friday.
In Class A, Wishek-Ashley doubled its win total of the past three seasons with a 34-8 decision over Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Friday. Wishek-Ashley, which came into the 2005 campaign having lost 26 of its last 27 games over three-plus seasons, improved to 2-1 overall behind a strong performance by running back Jeremy Herr. Herr carried 24 times for 117 yards and two TDs, and also caught four Eddy Delzer passes for 56 yards and a TD.
Steele-Dawson-TTP quarterback Chris Heins rushed for 92 yards and two TDs as the No. 5 Pirates improved to 3-0 with a 32-0 win over Hankinson-Fairmont-Campbell-Tintah Friday. Jon Scherbenske added 114 yards rushing and hauled in a 42-yard scoring pass from Mark Bakkum.
Linton-HMB's Tyson Bodvig returned to form Friday at Kindred. He had scoring runs of 67, 71 and 95 yards as well as a 77-yard kickoff return for a TD as the Lions topped the Vikings 30-20. Bodvig finished the night with 291 yards rushing on nine carries.
Matt Quintus' 85-yard kickoff return for a TD sparked Killdeer to a 13-7 win over No. 3 Stanley-Powers Lake Friday. Klay Carlson's fourth-quarter TD run won it for the Cowboys.
Kevin Aase scored on runs of 67 and 50 yards as Bowman County topped Grant County-Flasher 22-12 Friday.
No. 1 Velva-Sawyer built a 72-0 halftime lead en route to a 78-12 win over Dunseith Friday. Jon Kramer, Devin Knutson, Casey Krebsach and Zach Peterson each scored two TDs for the winners.
Cavalier's Matt Anderson rolled up 230 yards and five TDs before halftime Friday as the No. 2 Tornadoes defeated Larimore 32-7. Cavalier extended its winning streak to 39 games.
In 9-man, Eddie Cullum's rushing numbers dropped dramatically Friday, but Turtle Lake-Mercer still rolled past Center-Stanton 34-0 to improve to 3-0. The junior running back, who rushed for 548 yards and eight TDs in the Trojans' first two games, had 73 yards and two scores on 14 carries. Quarterback Josh Thomas had 95 yards rushing and pitched TD passes to Todd Singer and Blake Walcker. Evan Nelson added 98 yards rushing.
No. 3 New Salem rolled up 463 yards rushing in a 45-8 win over New England Friday. Sophomore Travis Karch rushed for a career-high 162 yards and three TDs, while Chris Bauer, Louden Kruger and Rilie Larson added 136, 89 and 70 yards, respectively.
Jordan Dewald scored three TDs as No. 1 Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter improved to 3-0 with a 38-6 win over Maple Valley Friday.
Richland snapped Edgeley-Kulm's 14-game winning streak Friday, downing the No. 2-ranked Rebels 30-16. Jon Griffith carried 16 times for 110 yards and Logan Robertsdahl had two catches for 92 yards and a TD. Robertsdahl also returned an interception 25 yards to paydirt.
Eric Eberle tallied three TDs and Nathan Richard added two more to lead No. 5 Washburn to a 42-2 win over Underwood Friday. Eberle now has seven TDs.
Brock Gion rushed for 103 yards and two TDs and Blaise Kautzman caught a pair of scoring passes from Brade Schweitzer covering 75 and 34 yards as Mott-Regent topped Hettinger 34-20 Friday.
Colin Dusek scored on a 69-yard run and Joey Berg added a 40-yarder Friday as Wilton-Wing posted its first win of the season, 20-6 over Richardton-Taylor-Hebron.
Strasburg-Zeeland lit up the scoreboard Friday, rolling past Enderlin 66-0. Tom Kraft, Cory Hummel and Eddie Kramer scored two TDs apiece and Ryan Baumgartner rushed for 99 yards on only five carries.
Glenburn and Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood combined for 124 points Friday, with Glenburn winning 68-56. Glenburn's Michael Hammer scored five TDs, two on kick returns, and quarterback David Undlin threw four TD passes. MLS quarterback Brett Hefter pitched six scoring passes, four to Kelton Ferguson.
Alex Bossert scored three TDs and quarterback Myles Martwick threw three TD passes Tuesday to lead Tri-County to its fourth win in as many games, 49-20 over Towner-Granville-Upham. TGU quarterback Mitchell Smette and wide receiver Roger Neuhalfen hooked up for scoring plays of 11, 30 and 88 yards.
Several key games are on tap Friday. In 9-man, No. 2 New Salem (3-0) will host No. 4 Washburn (3-0). No. 1 Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter (3-0) will visit defending state champion Edgeley-Kulm (2-1). In Class A, No. 5 Killdeer (2-1) will travel to No. 3 Williams County (3-0) and in Class AA, No. 1 Dickinson Trinity (2-0) will host Hazen (2-1).
Volleyball
Larissa Marsh had 15 blocks and seven kills in Belfield-South Heart's 3-0 win over Glen Ullin-Hebron on Thursday. Megan Richard and Justine Braun each added seven aces.
Sunni Kovar had 29 assists, 21 digs and five aces as New England edged Killdeer 3-2 Thursday. Anita Jepson and Tana Trotter each had 16 kills for Killdeer.
Amy Baumann had 27 kills, eight blocks, nine digs and four aces in Ashley's 3-2 win over Strasburg-Zeeland Tuesday. Teammate Elizabeth Rerick had 30 assists.
Amanda Hauck recorded 18 kills and Mandy Naumann was credited with 43 assists as Richardton-Taylor improved to 14-1 with a 3-2 win over the Dickinson JV Tuesday.
Cross Country
Robin Ironshield of Standing Rock was the fourth Class B runner to finish at the Mandan Kiwanis Invitational Saturday. Ironshield finished 21st overall.
