Trivia answer

From 1D: On Oct. 2, 2004, Rice and San Jose State played in the highest-scoring regulation game in Division I-A history, with San Jose State winning 70-63. The 133 points surpassed the total from Middle Tennessee's 70-58 victory over Idaho on Oct. 6, 2001. The 19 touchdowns also broke the Division I-A record of 18.

10 years ago (1998):After watching Minot backup center Lyndsi Johnson light up his Bismarck Demons for 12 points in the third quarter of a West Region girls basketball game, coach Rich Hovland needed to make a change.

Fast.

Because the Demons didn't have any one player who could guard the 6-0 junior one-on-one, Hovland put three post players - Rachelle Gossett, Chrissy Buth and Linsey Ness - on the court together for the first time.

The plan worked to perfection.

Until the final 23 seconds of the quarter, the Demons held Johnson to one point - and the rest of the Majettes scoreless - and sweated out a 42-37 victory.

"It turned out to be a good move, and it gives us another option we can use later on," Hovland said.

Stacey Mees led the Demons with 12 points, and Gossett and Natalie Brunner each added 10.

20 years ago (1988): Minot State quarterback Chad McNally completed only six of 13 passes against the University of Mary.

However, those six completions went for 183 yards and a touchdown as Minot State rolled past the Marauders 42-22 at Hegeholz Field. Mike Bergman caught five passes for 175 yards, including a 54-yarder for a touchdown.

Curt Kittelson led a strong Minot State ground game with 172 yards.

Roger Aberle had 96 yards rushing for the Marauders.

50 years ago (1958): HEBRON - Hebron and Glen Ullin battled to a 12-12 tie in Heart River Conference football action.

Ron Staiger scored for the Brickmakers in the second quater and Roger Reinbold passed to Wally Deide for the final score in the fourth.

Richard Staiger and Rich Hertz tallied for the Rattlers.
