10 years ago (1997):Every once in a while a bad line change will cost a team a hockey game, but how often do good changes won one.

Twice Nathan Mickelson came over the boards, immediately stole the puck and scored, and that was the difference as Century held off a game Mandan team 4-1.

The win was a big one for the Patriots, who are tied for second in the West Region.

"That's right where we wanted to be right now," Century coach Mike Wald said.

Joe Towle also scored twice for the Patriots, while Mickelson and Darik Hoff picked up assists. Andy Volk made 20 saves in the win.

For the Braves, Ryan Crouse scored from Todd Lohstreter and Ben Kist, while Toby Kienzle made 22 saves between the pipes.

20 years ago (1987): The Bismarck High Demons may have turned their new house into a happy home.

After five frustrating periods inside the All seasons Arena, the Demons exploded in the third period and came from behind to defeat Hallock, Minn., 4-3 in boys high school hockey.

Travis Johnsen scored the game-winner with 18 seconds left. He also had an assist, while Brian Dukart and Scott Gauerke each had a goal and an assist.

Steve Forsberg scored a goal and Scott Weigum, Jon Sanstead, Blake Bina and Curt Gainsforth each added assists.

Reed Grunseth made 24 saves for the win.

50 years ago (1957): In the City Basketball League, Covered Wagon edged ahead of the Bismarck Tribune in the standings by over-running the BJC B team 63-25 and American Legion took third place by nipping Kavaney's 59-53 in overtime.

Dick Karlgaard had 16 points for Covered Wagon and Ken Anderson netted 12. Jay McCallum led the BJC Ramblers with 12.

Rube Grosz and Gary Grimstead had 21 and 15 points respectively for the Legion, while Gene Binder had 15 and Bill Colling 14 for Kavaney's.
