10 years ago (1999): Almost half of the All-South Central Conference boys basketball team is made up of underclassmen. There are seven seniors on the 13-man team.

Napoleon, with Mark Roth and Caleb Ketterling, and Steele-Dawson, with Chad Brousseau and Clint Fallgatter, each placed a pair of seniors on the all-conference team.

The remaining seniors are David Salwei of Wishek, Dustin Salzer of Ashley-Zeeland and Mark Heflin of Gackle-Streeter.

Juniors named to the team are Gabe Erbele of Gackle-Streeter, Jon Van Boven of Strasburg and Scott Evenson of Linton.

Will Kusler, a sophomore from Kulm, Ron Benz, a sophomore from Linton, and Brian Dykema, an eighth-grader from Strasburg, complete the team.

The Jerome Gerving family of Glen Ullin not only plays the game, they are fans of it as well.

Jerome and wife Eileen bring new meaning to the words basketball fans. Over the 23 years they've been watching their eight kids play ball, they've cheered and chewed nails through six regoinal tournaments and three state tournaments.

The Gerving's childres are Chuck, Kevin, Mark, Donna, Rob, Doug, Jeff and Mitch.

Art Winter led Bismarck with 18 points and Ron Carlson added 16, while Rod Tjaden netted 15 and Rich Olthoff chipped in eight.

Williston beat Dickinson 59-50 for fifth place.

Gary Sukut paced the Coyotes' attack with 20 points. Ron Erdmann added 13. Pat Keller had 16 for the Midgets and John Dinsdale added 12.
