Wentz chooses to concentrate on baseball
ZachWentz's explosive summer has blown away his idea of being a two-sport man in college.
Wentz, who was headed to North Dakota State University as a preferred walk-on for the football team, has decided he's instead going to concentrate on baseball for the Bison.
That mean's goodbye to football, where he was a record-setting all-state quarterback.
"As a preferred walk-on I kept my options open," said Wentz, a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder. "And with the spring Ihad and the summer I'm having I've been pushed by scouts and coaches to pursue baseball."
This spring Wentz earned all-state honors as Century placed fourth in the state high school tournament. He's batting over .500 this summer with 10 home runs.
Wentz said baseball was the logical long-term choice. "If I was going to play a sport for just four years, football would have been the way to go. It's a great environment (at NDSU)," he saidd. "But looking at the future, it's baseball."
