UND coach gets extension
GRAND FORKS (AP) - University of North Dakota officials say head men's basketball coach Brian Jones has been given a three-year contract extension.
The announcement was made by co-athletic directors Steve Brekke and Betty Ralston.
They say the extension runs through the 2012-13 season -the first season UND will be eligible for NCAA Division I postseason play.
Jones' salary details are to be worked out with whoever is chosen as UND's new athletic director.
Jones just completed his second season as UND's head coach. He had a one-year contract in his first season (2006-07) and received a three-year extension through June 30, 2010.
The Sioux finished with a 15-15 overall record this season, after an 11-17 record the year before.

NDHSAA, NBC North Dakota Sports reach five-year deal
VALLEY CITY (AP) - The North Dakota High School Activities Association has agreed to a five-year deal with NBC North Dakota Sports to televise state events in football, boys and girls hockey and boys and girls basketball.
"I think it's a great service to those who can't travel to the games," association Executive Secretary Sherm Sylling said.
Sylling said NBC, which currently holds the broadcast rights, was the only network to bid for the new contract. Its total value is about $578,000. The agreement also gives NBC North Dakota Sports exclusive Internet streaming rights for the events.
The NBC North Dakota Sports network includes KFYR-TV in Bismarck, KVLY-TV in Fargo, KMOT-TV in Minot, KUMV-TV in Williston and KQCD-TV Dickinson.
All of those stations will televise the four football championship games from the Dakota Bowl, four games from the state boys and girls hockey tournaments, eight games each from the Class B boys and Class B girls state basketball tournaments and six games from the combined Class A state boys and girls tournament.
