10 years ago (1996): The Bismarck Demons ran into a Class B buzzsaw in Hatton. BHS won the first game 3-1, but the Flyers bounced back to win 6-5 in the second. Chris Schneider fired a three-hitter to give Bismarck a win in the first game. Randy Cranston and Andy Christenson each plated two runs for Hatton as the Flyers rode a six-run second inning to victory in the second game.

25 years ago (1981): Rory Schuh of Bismarck rallied in the final three games to win the first Capital Lanes 24-game bowling marathon. Schuh finished with a total of 5,097 pins to nose out Jamestown's Leonard Mayer, who had 5,085 pins in the gruelling one-day event.

50 years ago (1956): Paul O'Leary, Bismarck's contribution to the professional golfing world, is taking time out from the coast-to-coast touring circuit to spend a few days with his parents here. From Bismarck, O'Leary goes to St. Louis to compete in the St. Louis Open.
