Donny Schatz may be the star of the Advanced Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series this season, but Steve Kinser is still "The King."

With 20 series championships, 12 Knoxville (Iowa) Nationals titles and 549 victories to his credit, the Bloomington, Ind., driver has certainly earned that title.

On Saturday night, Kinser wowed an overflow crowd at Mandan's Dacotah Speedway, cruising to his sixth feature victory of the season as the World of Outlaws made its debut at the Mandan track.

It was the veteran's first visit to Dacotah Speedway, and the facility's three-eighths mile oval dirt track was to his liking.

"I sure can't complain about it. … It was awfully good to me tonight," said Kinser, who has posted more than 50 victories at tracks he's visited for the first time. "You get a little bit concerned when you run on a track for the first time because you don't know what to expect, but I liked this one. I think just about everybody did."

Schatz, a Minot native and two-time defending series champion, came into the night holding an 118-point lead over second-place Meyers. He won his heat and finished third in the dash, but couldn't get past fourth place in the feature.

Schatz remains the only driver in the series to finish in the top 10 in each of the season's 41 shows.

Kinser, who earned $10,000 with the victory, started the 28-car, 30-lap feature at the pole position and stayed in front throughout. By the fifth lap, he held a substantial lead over Craig Dollansky of Elk River, Minn. By the sixth go-around, he was lapping cars.

A caution on the 13th lap pulled the field closer together, but it didn't matter. Kinser surged ahead of the pack at the restart and never looked back.

"The car ran so well tonight. … It's been running well the whole second half," he said.

That wasn't the case for most of the first half of the season. "We had a terrible, terrible first half. … Motor trouble, mostly," Kinser said. "That's one of the big reasons why we're in fifth place (in the points standings) right now. But we got it all straightened out. We've been really consistent and finishing in the top five most nights."

Kinser earned the pole position by defeating 10 other drivers in a six-lap dash. He also finished first in his heat.

Dollansky came in second in the feature, and was followed by Jason Meyers of Clovis, Calif., Schatz, and Jac Haudenschild of Wooster, Ohio.

Dollansky had the fastest qualifying time Saturday, circling the track in 14.723 seconds. Daryn Pittman of Owasso, Okla., also won a heat race, and Sam Hafertepe, Jr., of Sunnyvale, Texas, took top honors in the B-main feature.

In addition to the $10,000 first-place prize, Kinser was presented with a seven-foot custom clock that was designed and made by Ivan Sailer of Racer Performance. Sailer is president of the Dacotah Speedway.

The World of Outlaws moved north to Minot on Sunday for a show at Nodak Speedway.

The night also featured the Legends class, with Nathan Speten of Wilton taking the checkered flag in the 15-lap final. Speten pulled into the lead during the third lap and held off points leader Spencer Wilson of Minot.

Paul Huettl of Bismarck, Lance Jangula of Linton, and Tony Buckhouse of Glyndon, Minn., rounded out the top five.

Dacotah Speedway will host the season championships on Friday.
