10 years ago (1999): Mandan native Aron Amundson, a third team All-America player at the University of Minnesota, has signed with the Fargo Redhawks of the Northern League.
Amundson, a 6-foot-4, 215-pounder who bats left and throws right, was one of the Gophers' most productive players this spring. He hit .396 with 15 home runs, 19 doubles, 53 runs batted in and 48 runs scored. He earned All-Big 10 and all-region honors.
20 years ago (1989): Lee Demarais went 6-for-6 to lead the assault as the Bismarck Governors swept Dickinson 11-2 and 11-0 in American Legion baseball action.
Demarais had three hits in each game. He scored twice in the first game, and had a double and two runs batted in in the second.
On the mound, Bismarck's Jason Sprynczynatyk scattered eight hits in the opener. In the nightcap, Marc Weigum shut down Dickinson on two hits.
50 years ago (1959): MILES CITY, Mont. - Bismarck's American Legion Juniors were declared co-champions of the four-state Miles City, Mont., tournament.
Bismarck defeated Rapid City, S.D., 6-1, while Sheridan, Wyo. stopped Miles City 5-0. Bismarck and Sheridan were to meet for the championship, but the game was rained out.
Bismarck's Steve Woodcox was outstanding on the mound against Rapid City, allowing one earned run and two hits, while striking out eight and walking only two. He improved to 4-1.
