10 years ago (1997):For those with state championship aspirations, the time has come tp put up or shut up. With the 28th annual Bismarck Rotary Wrestling Tournament close at hand, the sorting process among the state's Class A teams and athletes is soon to accelerate. All 17 North Dakota Class A teams will assemble at the same site for the only time prior to the state tournament. In addition, the 24-team field includes three Class B teams and four out-of-state entrants. Carrington, Lisbon and Napoleon are the CLass B entrans. Rapid City Central and Rapid City Stevens represent South Dakota. Glendive and Sidney are the Montana teams in the field.
20 years ago (1987): The long and winding road kept turning back to Bismarck when University of Mary football coach Bill Connor searched for his top assistant. Connor said he searched all of North Dakota for an assistant. Everyweher te weht, Roger Haug's named was mentioned. "Honestly, I think his name came up nine times out of 19," Connor said. "I observed the things he did on the practice field at St. Mary's and I was very impressed." Haug was officialled named to the U-Mary staff. For now, Haug is the only full-time assistant for the football program. Connor said he had "lots of imput" in the selection of Haug.
50 years ago (1957): Class B concensus is thate Hettinger High School must be top-rated. "I was afraid of thate," moaned Coach Duane Holly after his club whipped Fort Yates, 61-53, in the Hettinger Tournament. Coach Bill McGarvey's Linton Lions are also climbing. "The best Class B team I've seen all season," said Jamestown Sun sports editor Sam Lowe after they walloped Strasburg, 59-31, thus avenging an over time defeat by the Clippers.
