Playback

10 years ago (1996): OAKLAND, Calif. - Chili Davis went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs and North Dakota's Darin Erstad was 2-for-5 and scored twice as the California Angels beat the Oakland Athletics 9-4 to avoid a four-game sweep.

25 years ago (1981): CASPER, Wyo. - Three home runs were belted in a losing cause as the Mandan Chiefs fell 11-10 to Casper in an American Legion baseball game.

Scott Harr rapped a grand slam home run and Chuck Mischel clubbed two solo homers, but that wasn't enough for the Chiefs. They let a 9-7 lead slip away in the seventh when Casper scored two to force extra innings. Mandan went ahead 10-9 in the 11th when Mischel hit his second homer.

But Casper tied it again in the lower 11th and won it in the 12th.

50 years ago (1956): WILLISTON - The Minot Mallards downed the Williston Oilers 12-7 to drop the Oilers out of first place in the Man-Dak League. Manager Joe Piercey, who relieved Dirk Gibbons in the seventh, got credit for the win.
