The Capital City has been home to some heavy hitters this season. Two of them - University of Mary baseball player Mike Feldman and softball player Meghan Ward were among those honored by the Bismarck Quarterback Club at its annual banquet on Wednesday night.

Feldman was named the club's male college athlete of the year, while Ward took home the top female college athlete award.

On the high school level, Bismarck's Tyler Johnson won the boys award, while fellow Demons Alex Feeney and Kelsey Reimnitz shared top girls honors.

Feldman, a senior outfielder and pitcher, became U-Mary's career hits leader earlier this month. He is batting .414 with nine homers and 29 RBIs. The St.Mary's graduate has brought a combination of power and speed to the Marauder lineup, with a healthy .717 slugging percentage and 12 steals in 13 attempts.

He leads the NSIC in hits (60) and total bases (104) and is among the top five in nearly every major offensive category.

Ward, a senior second baseman, is hitting .346 with one home run and 29 RBIs.

A third-team All-American selection as a junior, Ward is leading the NSIC in hits (66)and doubles (17). She is also among the top five in runs (37), total bases (86) and steals (17).

Johnson, a senior at BHS, is a standout in wrestling, football and baseball.

On the mat, Johnson went 50-0 with 36 pins en route to his third state title. He also placed second in the National High School Coaches Association tournament, earning All-American honors.

On the gridiron, Johnson earned all-state honors for the second straight year while leading the Demons to the state title game.

In baseball, Johnson was an all-region pick.

Feeney also excelled in three sports - basketball, volleyball and track.

Feeney's emphasis was on the hardwood. The senior was named a Miss Basketball finalist, shared the West Region senior athlete of the year award with Marlee Finley, and earned first-team all-state honors for a second straight year. Feeney averaged 16.3 points, 8.5 rebounds while leading the Demons to a runner-up finish at state.

In volleyball, Feeney was a finalist for senior athlete of the year and earned all-state honors for the Demons, who placed third. In track, Feeney ran a leg on Bismarck's state championship 1,600-meter relay team.

Reimnitz was a standout in track and basketball for the Demons. At last year's state track meet, Reimnitz joined Feeney on the winning 1,600 relay team. She also placed second in the 100 and 200 and third in the 400.

In basketball, Reimnitz averaged 6.8 points per game.
