Century's winning 389 was just a stroke better than runner-up Beulah's 390. Dickinson with 398 and Mandan with 395 also broke 400.

Behind Klein in the individual competition came Erica Sullivan of Beulah with an 88 and Katie Wetsch of Mandan with an 89.

20 years ago (1989): The University of Mary is continuing its facelift. It has to do with the responsibilities of the coaching staff. A change head coach Jim Driscoll hopes sends the Marauders down the road to success.

Driscoll will spend most of his energy as the defensive coordinator.

"We have a coach who's had a lot of experience in that area," linebacker Toby Schweitzer said.

Roger Haug will return as offensive coordinator, while former Mandan and Century coach Harvey Keeney will take over Driscoll's offensive backs responsibility.

Others on the staff include Charles Fortney (wide receivers); Ric Aberle (offensive backs); Tim Jeske (defensive line); Pat O'Brien (outside linebackers); Randy Aberle (inside linebackers); Matt Edgell )offensive line and Bela Balogh.

50 years ago (1959): Bismarck could lay claim to its biggest golfing success in 25 years with both the men's and th women's state amateur titles resting in the capital city.

Mrs. Audrey Wightman, Bismarck, won her third consecutive women's crown here by defeating Carol Creed, Minot, in a 4 and 3 match over the Apple Creek Country Club course.

Mrs. Wightman, wife of the Bismarck Municipal Country Club golf pro, also won titles in 1957 and 1958, and was medalist last year and this year.

Combined with George Cram Jr.'s victory in the men's state amateur tournament here, it marked the first dual victory for Bismarck since 1934, when Nadine O'Leary was women's champ and Paul Cook won in the men's division.

Lu Fuller, Mandan, won the consolation championship 5 and 3 over Ruth Rausch, Bismarck; Bev Stip, Bismarck, won the first flight; Cecile Baumgartner, Bismarck, won second flight 2 and 1 over Doris Grim, Bismarck; and Gladys VanVleet, Bismarck, won third flight 5 and 4 over Marian Thompson, Bismarck.
