BASEBALL

Sioux Empire Baseball ASSOCIATION: In Sioux Falls, S.D.. Session for infielders and outfielders Dec. 27-28, one for pitchers and catchers Dec. 29-30. Players attending both will received a discount. The camp stresses mechanics, offensive and defensive training and mechanical training. Bring glove(s), bat, catching gear, turf shoes and appropriate workout gear. Overnight participants will be housed at the Ramkota Hotel and will receive two lunches, one dinner and one breakfast. Midwest Baseball Academy: Jan. 11-Feb. 15. Six-week spring training baseball program for players in grades 1-12 at BismarckState. BSC coach Len Stanley will direct the program in conjunction with Midwest Baseball Academy. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching and catching lessons for as little as $99 for six weeks. BASKETBALL

BENEFIT HELD FOR KARY: The Mandan boys and girls basketball players are holding a benefit for Brent Kary, a local attorney who just graduated law school last May and has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in his liver.

Games will feature boys and girls in kindergarten through fourth grade. The games will be held Jan. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mandan Middle School.

Suggested donations are $15 per child. Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Suggested donation is $5.

FOOTBALL

COLORADO ICETRYOUT:Jan. 31 at Bismarck's Four Seasons Golf Dome. Former Bismarck Blaze and Roughriders Collins Sanders is conducting open tryout for the Indoor Football League's Colorado Ice, based in Fort Collins, Colo.The tryout is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Combine-style tryout will include 40-yard dash, 225-pound bench press for reps, vertical jump, and pro agility (right and left) tested. Additional position-specific drills will be conducted. Proper athletic attire is required. No cleats or spikes of any type will be allowed. Registration fees are $45 for pre-registered participants and $55 the day of the tryout. Pre-registered participants may pay by check or credit card, same day walk-up registration is cash only. Pre-registration is encouraged as space is limited. Bismarck Inn is offering special discounted hotel rates to prospective players traveling to the area. ATHLETICS

OPEN GYM PROGRAM:The Bismarck Parks and Recreation District is offering an Open Gym Program for youth and adults to use a neighborhood gymnasium in a supervised, free-play situation. Free of charge and runs through March 7-8. Times and locations can be found on the Bismarck Parks & Recreation Web site http://www.bisparks.org.

Court reservations will be taken for adult teams interested in practicing at Wachter or Simle Middle Schools. Reservations can be made for the weekend by calling 222-6454. Each team will have a court for one hour.
