Century 8-4, Jamestown 1-3

JAMESTOWN - Hunter Johnson tossed a five-hitter as Century rolled past Jamestown 8-1 in a West Region baseball game played Monday at Jack Brown Stadium.

Century also took the non-region game, 4-3 in seven innings.

Johnson allowed a run in the bottom of the first inning, but blanked the Blue Jays the rest of the way. He walked three and struck out three.

Chris Wenzel singled, doubled and drove in a run to lead a nine-hit Century attack.

The Patriots also took advantage of five Jamestown errors.

DICKINSON- Mandan scored three runs in the top of the seventh only to give up four runs in the bottom of the inning and lost a West Region game Monday.

Brandon Leingang, Andrew Tweet and Jared Quast all knocked in runs in the seventh for the Braves.

Tyler Steffan answered with a bases loaded triple to tie the game.

College baseball

All-Mon-Dak

Bismarck State's Josh Standing Elk and Nate Watson have been named to the All-Mon-Dak Conference team for 2007.

Standing Elk, a sophomore third baseman-pitcher from Bismarck, won two of his five decisions this season and led the Mystics in innings with 37. He posted a 2.46 earned run average.

Standing Elk also batted .221 with four doubles and seven runs batted in.

Watson, a sophomore infielder-pitcher from Sturgis, S.D., batted .316 with a home run and 14 RBIS at the plate, and went 4-1 with a 1.65 ERA on the mound. He allowed 18 hits and struck out 33 in 29 2-3 innings.

Miles Community College's Cole Pryor was named the conference's Most Valuable Player, and teammate Chauncy Handran was named Most Valuable Pitcher.

DAC honors

Danny Reyes and Ed Davila of Dickinson State have been named DAC players of the week.

Reyes, a senior outfielder from Salinas, Calif., batted .778 with a 1.556 slugging percentage while helping the Blue Hawks win two games at the DAC tournament. He was 7-for-9 with a double, two home runs, four runs batted in and five runs scored.

Davila, a junior from San Pablo, Calif., threw a one-hitter in DSU's 11-2 victory over Minot State in an opening-round game of the DAC tournament. He walked four and struck out seven.

Davila had a no-hitter through 8 2-3 innings before allowing the only hit of the game.
