50 years ago (1958): New head football coach Connie Juelke has scheduled twice-a-day practice sessions for his Mandan gridders in order to squeeze in extra practice time before the Braves' opener two weeks hence.

Juelke, who succeeds Johnny Mach at the helm of Mandan football teams, had little information on his new charges, but said 14 returning lettermen were among the 51 players who got equipment for the start of practice.

Mach, who had been here 13 years, has taken a new position in California.
