10 years ago (1998): MINOT- Lisbon likes to keep the score low, but the Broncos didn't keep it low enough at the state Class B girls basketball tournament.

The Washburn Cardinals beat Lisbon at its own game, 41-35, in a quarterfinal.

"We like to score a little more than that," Washburn coach Keith Jacobson said.

Erica Swanson scored 14 points and Andrea Ronderos added 12 for Washburn. Brea Winn contributed seven points and seven rebounds.

Kari Nims led Lisbon with 13 points and five assists.

20 years ago (1988): MINOT- Does anybody do it better than Nadine Schmidt?

The 1988 Miss Basketball winner capped a brilliant high school career by hitting the winning shot, a 10-foot jumper in the lane, to lift Braddock to a 60-59 comeback victory over Marion-Montpelier in the title game of the state Class B basketball tournament.

"She worked her tail off to get it," M-M coach Bob Thoreson said.

"Every time she's out there she amazes me," said Braddock coach Del Svalen.

Schmidt set three records: most field goals in the tourney (50), most points (102) and most points in the championship game (41).

Shelley Moch added eight points for Braddock, while Clarice Bohlin chipped in seven. Schmidt pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double.

Barb Schmidt led M-M with 20 points, while Abby Baertsch collected 18 points and 10 rebounds.
