10 years ago (1998):Century outfielder Kevin Benson has been selected as the Gatorade Circle of Champions baseball player of the year.

Benson, who will attend McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas, led Century to second place at the state Class A tournament.

20 years ago (1988): Scott Ressler pitched a no-hitter over five innings as the Mandan Chiefs defeated the Rapid City, S.D., Bullets 14-0 at the Dickinson Legion baseball tournament.

Earlier Mandan fell to Williston 9-4. Ressler went 3-for-3 at the plate for the Chiefs in that game.

50 years ago (1958): The Bismarck American Legion Junior baseball team picked up its fifth win of the year and second in a row by shutting out the Sidney, Mont., Juniors 4-0 behind the three-hit pitching of Steve Woodcox.

Catcher Rich Olthoff paced the Bismarck attack, getting two hits in three times up, scoring twice and stealing two bases. He also nipped two baserunners trying to steal.
