Trivia answer

From 1D: Hideo Nomo of the Los Angeles Dodgers was the first Japanese player picked to play in a Major League Baseball All-Star game. Nomo, who at the time was the National League's leader in strikeouts and was second in ERA, was picked to be on the NL All-Star team on this date in 1995.

10 years ago (1998):WASHBURN - Washburn put 27 runs on the board in the second game of a doubleheader, and needed as much to outlast Wing-Tuttle-Robinson 27-21.

Washburn pounded out 24 hits, with Trapper Wagner, Derek Spitzer and Doug Ness all going 4-for-4. Ness drove in six runs, and Wagner and Spitzer four apiece.

Kyle Hetletved went 3-for-5 to lead WTR.

Ness and Justin Dally each hit a solo home run in the opener, won by Washburn 10-6.

20 years ago (1988): A former state champion wrestler from Mandan High School has decided to transfer from the University of North Dakota to the University of Mary.

Kurt Fleck, who won a state title at 138 pounds in 1985, will compete at 134 in the North Dakota College Athetic Conference. Fleck is a 1985 MHS graduate.

50 years ago (1958): Despite a 15-man infield massed against them, only four men to do their own scoring and a pitcher who hurled his bullets either from second base or blindfolded, the fabulous "King and His Court" had little difficulty tripping up the Church League All-Stars 13-3.

Actaully, the final score was probably the least important item of the evening's entertainment, which was billed as a softball exhibition and was exactly that, with star pitcher Eddie Feigner doing most of the exhibiting. Throwing at "three-quarter speed," Feigner fanned 19 batters, including three in one inning while serving them up blindfolded.
