10 years ago (1999): Hazen swept a doubleheader against Wing-Tuttle-Robinson by scores of 5-1 and 6-5 in American Legion baseball.

Dalon Grimm led Hazen in the first game by going 2-for-2 with a triple. Matt Walden went 3-for-4 with a double in the second game for Hazen.

20 years ago (1989): A tie was almost as good as winning for Duane Sandvick and Gregg Stricke. Sandvick, a Bismarck bowler, and Stricke, who is from Rochester, Minn., both finished with 3,696 pins in the 18-game Team USA Region 4 Tournament that wrapped up at Midway Lanes in Mandan.

That's good enough for Sandvick and Stricke to realize their goal of advancing to the Team USA National Finals in Milwaukee. They'll join men's division champion Ted Staikoff of Black Hawk, S.D., and women's leaders Judy Gurney of Omaha, Neb., and Dawn Thorkildson of Mounds View, Minn., as Region 4 representatives.

50 years ago (1959): The Bismarck "B" Junior Legion team defeated Tuttle 11-5. Olmsted picked up the win while getting 13 strikeouts. He also helped his own cause by getting two hits. Murschell had three hits. Rach had two hits for the losers.
