20 years ago (1988): WASHBURN - The Washburn girls basketball team more than doubled up Wilton, winning easily 67-31.

Andrea Ronderos led the Cardinals with 24 points, while Amber Hagen added 11 and Erica Swanson chipped in 10 points. Brea Winn scored nine.

Megan Porter led Wilton with seven points.

50 years ago (1958): A large field is expected for the 8th annual three-day Bismarck-Mandan Championship Golf Tournamenat Apple Creek Country Club.

Dr. W.R Lauer is defending champion. He had to come from behind twice last year to defeate George Cram and then A.J. Shriner.

Tournament chairman Blaine Miller said all areay golfers are invited. Those wanting to enter are asked to contact Apple Creek golf pro John Buck.

Others expeted to enter are: Bruce Anerson andRoger McKinnon from the Municipal Club; Bob Zirbes, 1956 runner-up; Randall (Randy) Kratz Jr.; Harlan Hobbs, semifinalist in the state amateur tournament; Bob Smith, state high school champion, and Bud Wigen, a semifinalist last year.

Three strong candidates from previous years - Gene (Rusty) Cook, Jack Satterwhite and Jim Hall - are out of town and unable to complete.

Last year's medaslist was P.R. (Doc) Jaynes with an even par 70. Last year's consolation winner was Bob Smith, with Norman Wahl as runner-up.
