JAMESTOWN (AP) - Jamestown officials are considering whether to supply a power plant with city wastewater as a backup.
A City Council committee is recommending an agreement with Great River Energy for its coal-fired Spiritwood power plant.
Great River is working on plans for a pipeline to bring treated water from the Jamestown wastewater plant to its power plant about 10 miles a way.
Under the proposal, the Stutsman Rural Water District would build and own the $7 million pipeline system. Great River would pay some of the cost of construction and a user fee.
The City Council is expected to discuss the issue next month.
Great River also plans to recycle water from the nearby Cargill malting plant to make steam-generated electricity, then return the waste steam to heat the Cargill building.
