GARRISON (AP) - Fort Stevenson State Park is hosting the Skydance Sakakawea Kite Festival for the 15th consecutive year.
Coordinator Deb Lenzen said she expected more than 500 spectators to attend the kite festival during Memorial Day weekend.
Professional kite flyers came to the festival from places such as Jamestown and from Colorado. The professionals brought 50 to 75 kites apiece of all shapes and sizes. One of the largest was a trilobyte, about 150 feet long, that was made of sturdy material similar to a tent.
Other kite flyers brought kites meant for children.
Lenzen said it was almost too windy to fly Saturday. She said the forecast for Sunday was "a kite flier's dream."
