DEVILS LAKE (AP) - Construction is to begin this summer on an upgraded water supply system for the city of Devils Lake.
The federal government is paying most of the 7.8 million dollar cost. Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the city are to sign an agreement Tuesday.
Six miles of Devils Lake's existing water line from a different aquifer is under the flooded lake of the same name. If the submerged line were to fail, it would threaten the city's water supply. The water line is nearly half a century old.
The corps says it will take two years to complete work on the new supply system.
