VALLEY CITY (AP) - Residents here will vote on whether to keep the city administrator position, but how soon the post could be abolished is in dispute.
A group that opposes the position gathered enough petition signatures to get the measure on the June 10 primary ballot.
City Attorney Jon Fitzner said that even if voters abolish the position, under state law it will remain until newly hired City Administrator Jon Cameron leaves the job. A new ordinance cannot nullify an existing employment contract, Fitzner said.
Bob Drake, one of the petition drive sponsors, said his opposition group will take the matter of Cameron's status to court if the measure passes.
