Fargo wants lawsuit dismissed
FARGO (AP) - Fargo officials are asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit by opponents of a Ten Commandments monument on city property.
The city denies it violated the constitutional rights of the Red River Freethinkers last year when it refused to place their monument next to the Ten Commandments monument.
The Freethinkers sued in federal court in April. The group earlier had argued unsuccessfully that the Ten Commandments monument violated the constitutional separation of church and state.
After losing that court battle, the Freethinkers had proposed a monument with an inscription including the words, "The government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion."
