The state Parole Board has denied parole for one woman convicted of child abuse and put off action on the request of another.

Board members refused to grant parole to Nikki Lynn Aipperspach, 36, a former West Fargo day care provider convicted of injuring a 20-month-old boy in September 2000.

Authorities said Aipperspach jammed a plastic spoon handle in the boy's throat, slapped him and pinned him down in scalding water for five minutes. She was ordered to prison for 10 years.

Her interview with Parole Board members Monday in Bismarck lasted about 15 minutes.

"She just did not take responsibility for the crime itself," said Pat Bohn, deputy clerk for the board.

With credit for good behavior in prison, Aipperspach is scheduled for release in August 2009.

The Parole Board deferred a decision in the case of Hawa Mohamed, 28, of Fargo, because she has an immigration hearing in March.

The board plans to review her case again in June, Bohn said.

Mohamed was convicted in 2002 of burning her 3-year-old son with an iron. A judge ordered her to spend eight years in prison.

Mohamed, a Somalian refugee, faces possible deportation.

Mohamed and Aipperspach are serving their time at the women's prison in New England, south of Dickinson.
