FARGO - Police here arrested a man for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend.

The 31-year-old woman was taken to a Fargo hospital for surgery. Her injuries do not appear life-threatening, authorities said.

Police said the 44-year-old Fargo man kicked in the door of his girlfriend's apartment early Sunday, stabbed the woman and threatened other people there.

He was stopped by a police officer while leaving the building. The suspect told the officer to shoot him before he was taken into custody, police said.
