The State Historical Society of North Dakota is unveiling designs for expanding the state Heritage Center in Bismarck.
The historical society is proposing a 97,000 square-foot expansion, estimated to cost $52.4 million.
Society board member Art Todd of Jamestown says it's a "pretty spectacular" project with exceptional benefits.
Historical Society officials have been touring the state to make their case. They say the expansion will increase display areas and storage space. The expansion also would include a café and outdoor patio, a 60-seat theater and a new entrance.
The society hopes to raise $12.4 million in private money and get $40 million from the Legislature to start work next year.
