GRAND FORKS (AP) - A drug court program already in place in Fargo and Bismarck is coming to Grand Forks.

District Judge Sonja Clapp will preside over the sessions each Monday afternoon for up to 25 people.

Drug court is an alternative to prison in which participants report to a probation officer, take part in addiction counseling and submit to alcohol and drug tests.

Assistant Cass County State's Attorney Gary Euren says Fargo drug court participants have stayed clean longer than drug offenders who were not in the program.

In Grand Forks, parole and court officials will screen drug court applicants. Violent offenders are not eligible, nor are people convicted of dealing or manufacturing drugs.
