FARGO (AP) - Innovis Health in Fargo is notifying 1,500 patients that it will no longer honor Medicare Advantage health insurance plans as of April 1.

The health plans for seniors are an alternative to traditional Medicare with supplemental coverage. Innovis says it determined that the plans are not a good deal for many patients. Organizations that help seniors with health insurance say some patients with the plans can end up with larger-than-expected bills.

Innovis has sent letters to affected patients and has scheduled two meetings to discuss the changes. Patients also received a list of Medicare plans Innovis will continue to accept.

In October, Fargo's MeritCare announced that it would no longer accept Unicare coverage, a Medicare Advantage plan, effective Jan. 1. That decision affects 3,000 patients, mostly in Minnesota.
