FARGO (AP) - A woman here has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a crash involving her van and a 6-year-old boy on a bicycle.

Teresa Mut, 30, pleaded guilty on Monday to the Class C felony charge and to a misdemeanor charge of driving without liability insurance.

East Central District Court Judge John Irby sentenced Mut to 360 days, with all but 10 days suspended. She will receive credit for two days served and may do 64 hours of community service to work off the remaining eight days.

Mut will be on supervised probation for 18 months on the felony charge. She received a 30-day sentence, suspended for one year, on the misdemeanor charge.

She was ordered to pay $1,700 in fines and restitution.

Assistant Cass County State's Attorney Kara Schmitz Olson told Irby that the family was not happy with the recommended punishment.

"They do not feel that that's appropriate and would like to see something higher imposed," she said.

Schmitz Olson said the boy suffered brain trauma and his medical costs exceeded $70,000.

Mut's attorney, Mark Beauchene, said his client feels terrible about the incident, calling it an "unavoidable accident."
