Despite appeals from Republican presidential candidates, Gov. John Hoeven has declined to choose a favorite, and he says he may not endorse one before Tuesday's caucuses.
The GOP governor said he has spoken to Mike Huckabee, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani, who dropped out of the race earlier this week, and to Mitt Romney "a number of times, both in person and on the phone," Hoeven said.
"I am weighing it out, carefully, and so I may (endorse a candidate), but at this point, I haven't," Hoeven said. "I know and have worked with a number of the candidates. They're good candidates."
Romney's wife, Ann, is campaigning Saturday for her husband in Fargo, where she intends to visit a phone bank of Romney volunteers and meet with potential voters at a Fargo hotel that will be used as a caucus site.
Both North Dakota's Republicans and Democrats are holding presidential caucuses on Tuesday. The results will be used to designate the loyalties of delegates from both parties to their respective national conventions.
