FARGO (AP) - An economist says an increase in North Dakotans' personal income last year reflects growth in the agriculture and energy industries.
Figures from the federal Commerce Department show North Dakota's per capita personal income rose 6.4 percent in 2007. That was fifth-best increase nationally.
Average per capita income nationwide rose 5.2 percent.
David Flynn, the director of the University of North Dakota Bureau of Business and Economic Research, says agriculture and energy are major drivers of the state's economy. He also says North Dakota has avoided the worst of the nationwide slump in housing and financial services.
North Dakota's per capita personal income of $34,846 in 2007 ranked 29th nationally. Connecticut ranked first with $54,117. Mississippi ranked last with $28,845.
