MINOT (AP) - Police say a Minot State University student reported she was grabbed and forced to the ground by a man who came up behind her near her apartment. The incident led campus officials to warn students to be extra careful.

Police said the student, whose name was not released, reported the assailant grabbed her after she left her apartment on the north side of campus to go to her car at around 11 p.m. Monday. She said the assailant apparently was scared off by a vehicle that drove into the parking lot.

The victim, who was not seriously injured, then returned to her apartment to contact police.

Detective Bob Barnard said the only description police have of the attacker is that of a man wearing blue jeans and a dark gray hooded sweatshirt. He said the area was searched with a K-9 team, but the dog was unable to find any tracks.

Minot State President David Fuller, in an e-mail to faculty, staff members and students Tuesday, advised extra vigilance.

"Having the event happen on the Minot State University campus, and in the wake of the off-campus death of student Anita Knutson, is cause for great concern," the notice said.

Barnard said police have found no connect between the latest incident and the death of Knutson, a Minot State student whose body was found June 4 in her off-campus apartment.

"At this point in time, we don't have any indication this incident is related to any others. I don't think this is an upturn in crime in the community," Barnard said. "It just happens a lot of things have happened at the same time that have focused our attention on this type of situation."
