The North Dakota National Guard says about 100 of its members will be assigned to the Mexican border next month.

The Guard says the soldiers will be part of Operation Jump Start, a federal border mission, and will help build and improve roads used by the Border Patrol.

The Guard says 50 members of the Williston-based 818th Engineer Company will leave Sunday for 20 days of border duty. They will be replaced by 50 members of the Dickinson-based 816th Engineer Company, who also will serve 20 days.

Operation Jump Start is expected to end in mid-July. North Dakota Guard officials say 177 soldiers and 20 airmen have been sent to the border for the project.
