ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The ex-wife of a Minnesota soldier has been sentenced to 30 days in the workhouse for draining his investment accounts.
A jury last month convicted Dana Kieser on two felony counts of check forgery.
Kieser was accused of forging the signature of her then-husband, John Kieser, to drain $25,000 from his investment accounts and to sell their Maplewood house. She used some of the money to buy a new house in Fargo, N.D.
John Kieser gave his wife power of attorney, before he left but said he intended her to use it only if he was incapacitated or died in Iraq. She claimed she thought incapacitated meant "not available."
Dana Kieser's attorney asked that his client be allowed to serve her sentence in North Dakota on home monitoring or work release.
