MINOT (AP) - A cell phone company is getting another chance to make its case for putting up a tower in this city.
The Minot City Council is having the city Planning Commission reconsider a request from Alltel and property owner William Hambright for the tower.
Neighbors objected to the location at a planning commission meeting last month, saying the 120-foot tower would be an eyesore and would lower property values. The commission voted to recommend the council deny the tower.
Alltel did not have a representative at the meeting. City Alderman Ron Boen said the company should have a chance to make its argument.
Some aldermen said Alltel missed its chance to comment.
"From a business standpoint, they should have known that they would have to be there," Alderman Ernest Medalen said. "Now they come at the last minute and want it referred back again. I just don't see that's the right way to go."
Said Boen: "What does it hurt to send it back to planning? Let them have their day in court. Then if we choose to deny it, we can deny it."
