MINOT (AP) - Officials are expecting more interest in building private wind towers, and looking into how to regulate them.

The Minot Planning Commission tabled a request Monday for a residential wind tower, saying it wants more specifics about the homeowners' plans and about how other cities deal with such requests.

"I know that people, because of the energy crisis, are interested in building towers," Commissioner Bob Schempp said. "The first few that we approve will set a precedent."

William and Sandra Carlson hope to be among those first few. The Carlsons are looking at blades 15 feet in diameter, mounted on an 80-foot to 100-foot wind tower.

Some neighbors are worried about aesthetics, noise and effect on property values, although only one person spoke at Monday's meeting to question the appropriateness of a wind tower in a residential neighborhood.

The commissioners asked the Carlsons to provide more details on their plans and plan to discuss the issue again July 28.
