FARGO (AP) - Shrine Circus organizers had to jump through hoops to comply with North Dakota law while making a stop in this city.
One of the laws required the circus to prove its tigers and elephants had a clean bill of health. Organizers also discovered that a 1929 state law requires the circus promoter to give the county auditor a copy of its contract.
The circus was alerted to the laws when two government officials sought the appropriate paperwork.
Beth Carlson, deputy state veterinarian, said the circus failed to obtain the proper entry permits for three tigers and three elephants. The circus also scrambled to get a Fargo veterinarian to inspect the animals' health late Friday.
"There is not a health concern at this time," Carlson said after reviewing the circus' faxed paperwork.
