NORTHWOOD (AP) - Interest in a new apartment complex here is coming not just from victims of the August 2007 tornado that devastated the town and destroyed an apartment building.
"Some are elderly people who want to move from the farm into town," said Jim Kappel, executive director of SouthEastern North Dakota Community Action Agency in Fargo.
"And there is some interest from former residents now living in Grand Forks and Fargo who want to move back to Northwood."
The 16-unit Northwood Village Apartments is being developed by Kappel's group, the Region V Community Development Corp. and the Eastern Dakota Housing Alliance. The state Commerce Department recently approved a $171,000 grant for the $2.2 million project.
The apartment complex is scheduled to be completed next month. Officials are just starting to take applications, and say they expect to end up with a waiting list of potential residents.
