GRAND FORKS (AP) - The director of the University of North Dakota's Energy and Environmental Research Center says he's already working to expand a hydrogen research project to be dedicated this fall.
Gerald Groenewold says the center has been focusing on infrastructure for hydrogen fuel sell cars.
"We have a chicken and egg problem here," Groenewold said. "The carmakers say, 'yeah, we can build a hydrogen fuel cell car, but where's the infrastructure to fuel it?' And the fueling people say, 'we can put in the infrastructure to fuel 'em, where's the cars?'"
Groenewold said hydrogen fuel cell cars could be in showrooms by 2015 - or sooner if gasoline prices continue to climb.
