FARGO (AP) - The Red River Zoo is building a gray wolf exhibit, with the help of donations.

The zoo received $330,000 in donations for the project, including two houses worth $280,000 from Van Raden Properties in honor of Roy and Alice Van Raden. The houses will be sold.

Linda Schulte of Fargo, the Van Radens' daughter, said her parents loved zoos, and the family was one of the original donors to the Red River Zoo.

"We believe that the zoo is a good thing for Fargo and want to show our support for it," she said.

The wolves are expected to arrive in Fargo in May, though the exhibit likely won't open until July, Executive Director Paula Grimestad said.

Visitors will be able to view the exhibit from a cabin that will depict the life of an 1800s trapper.

"We're trying to build more indoor exhibits, so that people have a place to go in the wintertime and still get to see animals," Grimestad said.

The 1.2-acre wolf exhibit will include three or four wolves and more than 120 trees planted to simulate a northern Minnesota forest. Other features include a stream and two outdoor viewing areas.
